Howdy 🀠! You may have heard rumours about the cash bounties posted by the PennyLane sheriffs for unitaryHACK. The sheriffs suggest that if you want a chance to claim them, you should get started with PennyLane, practice with the PennyLane codebook, and beat a few coding challenges. But should you believe the rumours?

We can't say for sure πŸ™Š, but a similar event did happen recently. We just participated in the first-ever unitaryDESIGN, an event run by the Unitary Foundation to welcome artistic contributions into the open source ecosystem and projects like PennyLane! As part of this event, the community could make creative designs for a chance to win cash bounties. Over the course of two weeks, we received some amazing contributions for puzzles, GIFs, and videos. Check out the designs we loved the most below. Can you guess what the puzzles are spelling out?

Bounty winners and why we loved their contributions

1. GIF β€” Sampling using the Haar measure vs t-designs

nirajvenkat put together an intuitive GIF of t-designs, with scientifically accurate animation and explanation adhering to PennyLane's style.

2. Video β€” Haar measure and spherical designs

nirajvenkat also expanded on the Haar measure concisely and clearly, with scientific accuracy in the short video below.

3. Puzzles β€” Two mystery puzzles

ACE07-Sev came up with an fun pair of creative puzzles with clear interpretations and excellent execution in the PennyLane style. Can you guess the quantum computing term hidden in the puzzles below?

Want to see the answer to the puzzles? We’ll be adding these puzzles to our puzzle collection over the following weeks, so follow us on Linkedin and X and stay tuned!

Honourable mentions

1. Video β€” Dynamic circuits

ACE07-Sev came up with an clear explanation of the difference between static and dynamic circuits.

Did you catch the animated train in ACE07-Sev’s video?

2. Puzzle β€” One mystery puzzle

shalini9894 shared a whimsical puzzle with a fun interpretation. Can you guess the quantum term?

3. GIF β€” Basis embedding

This fun GIF by saanaz379 feels like poetry, transporting you to another world while introducing basis embeddings.

Basis Embeddings

We loved all the designs that came in for unitaryDESIGN, thank you for your contributions! And remember, bounty hunters who want to keep their skills sharp can get started with PennyLane, practice with the PennyLane codebook, and beat PennyLane's coding challenges. Stay tuned for the upcoming unitaryHACK in the summer, and put your new skills to the test!
