This post is part 1 of the PennyLane Code Camp series
We are excited to announce the start of the PennyLane Code Camp, our virtual trip to the great outdoors!
For the next three weeks, quantum coders (solo or in teams) will test their skills against increasingly difficult coding challenges to learn, earn badges and compete for prizes by moving up the leaderboard.
Three weeks of challenges
The five Explorer challenges that will be available to our campers until the end of this first week will be a warm-up to what’s coming next — the Adventurer and Pioneer weeks, which will each bring five new and progressively tougher challenges. For those just starting out on their coding journey, the Explorer week is a great first step into quantum coding beyond the PennyLane Codebook, and subsequent weeks will challenge even the most experienced competitors.
It isn’t just leaderboard glory and prizes that participants are competing for, each week brings an opportunity to earn an official badge — by successfully completing all the challenges of that week. With all three badges, participants will have bagged themselves a certificate.
The most successful teams will earn points and climb up the leaderboard, vying for prizes to keep them warm around the campfire: books, towels, trees planted in their honor, campfire chats with Xanadu’s experts, lab tours, and even interviews for Xanadu’s very own Residency Program!
The time to solve the Code Camp challenges also matters — in case of ties, teams that solved their challenges faster will rise higher in the rankings.
How to join
If you’re not sure where to start, we have just the thing for you, a quick step-by-step guide to registering for the Code Camp, joining a team and submitting your first challenge solution.
You can find endless resources to get you started and advance your skills in quantum coding on the PennyLane website, our Slack channel, Discussion Forum, and YouTube playlist. For first-time campers, we recommend making space in your backpack for the PennyLane Codebook and peeking into the more advanced PennyLane demos for inspiration.
Drop a line on Slack if you’re looking to join or start a team, or just to tell us how it’s going. We’ve created the PennyLane Code Camp for you — we hope to have a wonderful time venturing off into the wilderness together!

The PennyLane Code Camp will take place from 9:00 a.m. ET on November 1st, 2022, until 5:00 p.m. ET on November 21st, 2022. To participate, register on pennylane.ai/codecamp.
